Responding to Allegations About Carrie’s Past

On Sunday, January 18, a supporter of Commissioner David Allen released a vicious social media post where he revealed that Carrie Slatosky was not born in Randolph County, has only lived in Randolph County for around 10 years, has no college degree, has filed bankruptcy, and was also charged with various crimes.

It is all true.

Carrie Slatosky was not born in Randolph County. Falling in love with and moving to Randolph County to raise a family is not disqualifying. It is honorable.

Carrie has no four-year degree. She knew she wanted to be a mother. Many a mother has raised her children without a college degree. Not every career requires a degree. Randolph County boasts of its community college where vocational careers are launched without a formal degree. Creating and living within a budget, providing and caring for one’s family, compassion for the hurting, and a having a strong vision for the future, do not require a degree.

It is true that Carrie had to file bankruptcy. What the malicious post did not disclose is that she was forced to file bankruptcy after suffering horrifically as a domestic violence victim. Her abuser not only viciously beat her but took out loans against her home without her knowledge. It was on one occasion, after she was brutalized while also pregnant, that both she and her abuser were charged with crimes. Carrie was forced to spend the night in jail beaten and battered. Carrie later saw one additional charge in the aftermath. All of Carrie’s charges were abruptly dismissed.

Later, Carrie found love and a new life in Randolph County after she was married to Dr. John Slatosky. Until this past Sunday, Randolph County has been a refuge and a place of healing for Carrie. Unfortunately, that painful past was dug up and used in a political attack.

Carrie Slatosky will continue to fight for the county she has called home for more than a decade. She will not play the victim. She will fight for every Randolph County citizen, regardless of level of education. As businesses and workers move into our county, Carrie will advocate for every citizen regardless of where they were born. And as a county commissioner, Carrie will be a strong advocate for domestic abuse victims.
